First visit to an orthodontist

The first visit to an orthodontist aims at a first, initial orthodontic examination.

This first visit usually stems from one of the following two reasons: The first is a referral from our dentist, if he realizes the existence of an orthodontic problem that needs specialized diagnosis and care. The second is at the initiative of the patient himself, if he notices any aesthetic disharmony or dysfunction in the oral cavity of himself or his children.

During the visit, the doctor and the patient meet. Then, the doctor carries out a short clinical examination to assess the problem. If necessary, the patient is referred for further examinations (e.g. panoramic radiography, cephalometric radiography).

At the second visit the doctor evaluates these examinations and also carries out a thorough clinical examination himself. He then takes pictures of the patient’s teeth and face. If he deems it necessary, he can also take a dental impression of the teeth.

Apart from this, during the next visits, the orthodontist explains in detail to the patient the problems with his oral cavity. Finally, both of them agree on the treatment to be applied, as well as on its duration and cost.
