Orthopedic Treatment
In some cases orthodontic problems may appear due to a disharmony of the skeletal structure of the face. This can be detected through a clinical and radiographical check, which includes a panoramic and a lateral cephalometric radiograph.
In children, such disharmonies are mostly corrected without a surgery, by effectively altering the growth process of their jaws and teeth. This can happen with an orthopedic treatment, through which we bring the patient’s jaws in a proper relation with each other and with the rest of the face.
The term “growth” refers to the process of the physical development of a person. It is a very “personalized” process in the sense that it happens differently in each person and is influenced by genetic or environmental parameters, as well as by age or gender. Therefore, the dental age of two children, i.e. the stage of growth of their teeth, may differ even if they are the same biological age.
Later on, any further orthodontic treatments can be applied based on the results of the orthopedic treatment.
